For the second year, Lexington’s Veterans Street Banner Program returns to honor 30 Fayette County men and women who have served in the military. Displayed along Vine Street, the banners are part of national and local Veterans Day observances.

The program is a joint project of the Office of the Mayor, the Lexington Commission on Veterans’ Affairs, and the Lexington History Museum. Its goal is to recognize local veterans, and share a glimpse of their stories with the community.

“It is important to me that we recognize our veterans for their valor and service,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “The veterans street banners are just one way we can publicly thank the men and women in our community who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.”

Earlier this year, the public was invited to submit applications for the program. A total of 30 veterans were selected. All nominees who submitted completed applications and supporting materials were included.
