The location is milepoint 2.45
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 14, 2026) – Work will soon begin on the Menelaus Road (KY 1983) bridge over the CSX railroad in Berea. The contract was awarded to Central Bridge on September 25, 2025. The old wooden structure (milepoint 2.45) will be demolished and replaced with a single span steel girder bridge.
Work is set to begin around the middle of February when final approvals are complete. The bridge is to be completed by November 1st of 2026. The existing bridge has been closed since May of 2021 to due deteriorating conditions and will remain closed during construction. Motorists are encouraged to continue utilizing the alternate routes.
Alternate Routes:
- Southbound traffic – KY 1983 North to US 25 South
- Northbound traffic – KY 1983 South to KY 956 West to I-75 North
All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
