Signal to begin flash mode Feb. 23 with full activation scheduled Feb. 26
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a new traffic signal installation at the intersection of KY 1974 (Tates Creek Road) and KY 1980 (Brannon Road) in Fayette County.
The signal is scheduled to operate in flash mode from Monday, Feb. 23 through Thursday, Feb. 26, with full activation planned at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26.
During flash mode:
- KY 1974 (Tates Creek Road) mainline through lanes will flash yellow caution.
- KY 1980 (Brannon Road) will remain stop-controlled and flash red.
At 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, the signal will be fully activated. The mainline left turn on KY 1974 will operate as protected/permitted options with flashing yellow arrow operation in addition to a green arrow.
The intersection is located at milepoint 5.5 on KY 1974. Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming changes.
All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
