Kentucky utility companies prepare for dropping temperatures, wind storms

Power companies in central Kentucky are preparing for dropping temperatures and wind storms expected in the coming weeks.
Power company LG&E and KU says they’re bringing in extra crews to the region so they’re prepared in case of any outages. They’ve been in contact with the National Weather Service in order to have crews in the right places when they’re needed.
LG&E and KU representative Chris Whelan says their main focus during wind storms is downed power lines.
“First and foremost, if we do have power outages and you see a line down, please notify us and call,” Whelan said. “And let us know that you’ve seen a downed line and stay away from that downed line. That’s key. That’s the most important thing, to stay away from a downed line.”
Whelan also pointed out the importance of keeping an emergency kit in case power does go out.
“You’ve got a battery operated flashlight and battery operated radio, you’ve got all your medicines with you, all the things that would make you comfortable in the event of power outage,” Whelan said.
Whelan also says outages can be reported through their phone app, which can be downloaded from the App Store on iPhones or Google Play on Android Phones.
