Mental Health Court Diversion Update

In Tuesday’s Social Services and Public Safety (SSPS) Committee meeting, Councilmembers will hear an update on the Lexington chapter of the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) Mental Health Court Diversion program. This program provides treatment services to criminal offenders with diagnosed mental health and substance abuse issues.

• Individuals who have gone through the program have a recidivism rate of 17.7%, as opposed to Kentucky’s overall recidivism rate of 46.6%.

• In 2024, participation in the program peaked at 32 people at one time, as compared to the 2022 peak of 16 people.
