EPA grant announced to help clean Kentucky waterways

A grant from the Environmental Protection Agency is being made available to help clean Kentucky’s polluted streams, rivers and lakes.
It’s focusing on runoff, which the state Energy and Environment Cabinet says is the state’s top contributor to water pollution. The grant will also help reduce groundwater contamination.
Last year’s grant awarded $1.2 million to three projects. That includes projects involving the Redbird River and Wolf Run Watershed, as well as a University of Kentucky Research Foundation project.
Funding will be used to cover 60 percent of each approved project, with a 40 percent non-federal match also being required.
Awards are expected to be announced in May.
