Fayette County Clerk says voter registration numbers are down from 2020

Monday was the deadline to register to vote in Kentucky and in Fayette County, fewer people are registered to vote than in 2020, the last presidential election year. County Clerk Susan Lamb says nearly 251-thousand were registered to vote then, while nearly 248-thousand – with a thousand or so applications still being reviewed – are registered for next month’s election. She said the drop surprised her.
“Since the primary of this year, we’ve had over 4,000 new voters. But in fact, I guess technically, you can say that while they are new voters — new voter registration applications — we’re still not to the same population of the registered voters that we had in 2020.”
Lamb said election day will likely feature long lines, but three days of early voting begin on Halloween.
“All six of our libraries are going to be open for our vote centers for early voting October 31, November 1 and 2. That’s 8:30 to 4:30.”
Lamb said Fayette County registered voters can cast their ballot at any library on those days and on election day, when the libraries and all precincts will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
