Board of Health appoints interim Commissioner of Health
A statement from Board of Health Chair Majd Jabbour:
The Board of Health is delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Davis, MD, as the Interim Commissioner of Health effective Monday, October 14, 2024.
Dr. Davis, with his rich experience in the medical field and as a public health official, is poised to lead us into our next chapter. As some of you may know, he currently serves as our medical director.
He is a proven leader. As a result of his leadership and commitment, Kentucky established early childhood development programs that include Birth Defects Prevention, Home Visiting Program for improved pregnancy outcomes (HANDS), Healthy Start in Child Care, Immunizations for Underinsured Children, Early Childhood Mental Health, and Oral Health for Children. He was instrumental in developing six Diabetes Centers of Excellence across the state. These sites provided education in the management and treatment of diabetes, resulting in better outcomes for Kentucky’s diabetic population.
Dr. Davis is dedicated to his community and is a servant leader. He provided leadership to the medical profession by his previous service on numerous Boards and Committees including the Kentucky Medical Association, Kentucky Pediatric Society, Kentucky Public Health Association, and the State AGOG Advisory Council among many others.
We know Steve is really looking forward to sharing his own ideas about what that future looks like for our community. You will be inspired by his commitment to sustainable change and humbled by the scale of problems he is willing to tackle. We trust you will extend to him the warmest of welcomes and demonstrate the very best of the LFCHD culture he has heard so much about.
