Lexington’s World Series champ offering rehab support for first responders

Coming off closing out a World Series Championship, Lexington’s Walker Bueller is back home and offering support to a group of first responders.
The Henry Clay High School graduate got the final three outs to preserve the L.A. Dodgers’ victory over New York in the Series’ clinching game. He was at Lexington City Hall Monday to announce the Bueller Family Foundation is paying for rehabilitation equipment for firefighters.
“Just people that I think are important and somewhat overlooked and in terms of the physical side like what they do is pretty rigorous and I have some experience with that kind of stuff. Seemed like a pretty natural fit for us,” said Bueller.
Bueller knows about rehab, coming back after two Tommy John surgeries on his arm. Fire Chief Jason Wells said the foundation money will pay for muscle massage and leg compression devices. Wells said two complete sets will be placed at each fire station and the training academy.
“Essentially our folks are tactical athletes. They utilize their bodies in much the same way as professional athletes do. But, we’ve not always taken the rehabilitation seriously so these devices help in that rehabilitation and help our members to feel better, get better faster, and continue to perform at that high level,” said Bueller.
The chief noted there are mental health benefits as well as it’s been shown that physical health and mental health are very clearly aligned.
