Mayor Linda Gorton, councilmembers, Lexington Parks & Recreation staff, and neighborhood families on Thursday cut a ribbon to officially open a new pool and pool house at Douglass Aquatic Center.
The new pool includes features unique to public pools in Lexington, including the first “wet bubble” in Kentucky.
“We are so excited to welcome families and our entire community to this exciting new aquatic center,” Gorton said. “While the needed renovation required closure for a season, we now have a brand-new pool with so many exciting features for the neighborhood and entire city to enjoy. With so many activities, and lots of shade structures to keep everyone cool, it is easy to envision how popular this pool will be in the years to come.”
In addition to the “wet bubble,” the new aquatic center and sprayground features zero-depth entry, a shaded stair entry with benches, a basketball goal, a water slide, a splash bucket, spray fountains, a water play table, and multiple shade areas with tables and lounge chairs. A zip line and diving board will be available at the beginning of the 2026 pool season.
