WATCH: “Pump your brakes” – Incoming Council Member says more data needed on Flock cameras
Lexington, Ky.–Incoming District 1 Council Member Tayna Fogle told the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council that it’s time to pump the brakes on expanding the Flock license plate reader program. Fogle said that the data is just not there to expand the program right now.
The Lexington Police Department and Mayor Linda Gorton have asked the current Council to consider quadrupling the size of the surveillance program’s scope prior to the completion of the ongoing one-year pilot program. Neither the Mayor nor the Police Department have provided statistically significant data to support their claims that the license plate readers prevent or deter crime.
