Former University of Kentucky Student Indicted for Racially Motivated Assault

Lexington, Ky.–The Lexington Herald Leader’s Taylor Six and Monica Kast reported Wednesday that a former University of Kentucky student, 22-year-old Sophia Rosing, has been indicted on all charges by a Fayette County Grand Jury for using racial slurs and assaulting a desk clerk and several others. According to court records and video evidence of the incident, Rosing entered Boyd Residence Hall and began taunting and making derogatory comments towards Kylah Spring.

Initially charged with six counts, Rosing was indicted on all charges which included third-degree assault of a police officer, two counts of fourth-degree assault, second-degree disorderly conduct, and alcohol intoxication.

The arrest report states that Rosing continued to use racial slurs and resisted arrest, even biting a police officer when they arrived at the scene. The incident went viral on social media, bringing national attention to the case.

As a result of her actions, Rosing was permanently banned from the university and fired from her student influencer and Dillards jobs. The indictment further alleges that Rosing kicked a UK police officer and hit and bit three other victims, including Kylah Spring.

Rosing is set to appear for arraignment in circuit court on March 17 at 10:30 a.m. before Fayette Circuit Judge Lucy VanMeter.
